South Africa – Meet my Bucket List!

Thanks to my incredible Aunt Anne Marie & Uncle Kirk, my family & I have the once in a lifetime opportunity to go to South Africa in 36 days! I am still hitting myself over this. I keep looking at pictures and have a feeling I’m going to want to bring home a baby animal of some sorts. (Yes, I’m aware that’s frowned upon, just let me have my moment.)

We are traveling into Johannesburg first, then off onto a safari. Holy shit, I’m so excited just typing the word safari. If anyone has suggestions on best travel clothing (think neutrals for the safari) let me know. It will be winter and I’m struggling with the idea of layering & thermals in June.

We will also be visiting some local schools and sites. We have the opportunity to take donations with us to the schools and I want to make sure I take full advantage of that. So I’m asking for your help. We will be visiting a center in Johannesburg (Joburg) that looks after abandoned kids. They are looking for any donations for kids between 0 & 4 years old. In addition, we will also visit a primary school in Soweto, an area within Joburg.  They are looking for donations for kids between 5 & 13. See the list below.

Items to donate:

  • Anything for children 0-4 years old
  • Blankets
  • Books (any age appropriate for 5-13-year-olds)
  • Games(frisbees, jump ropes)
  • School supplies (paper, pencils, chalk, coloring books, puzzles, etc)

I’m taking a piece of luggage with me that can stay in South Africa, so I’m looking to fill it with as many items to donate as possible. If you would like to donate anything at all, please let me know! Either comment below or email me at erika.weadock@gmail.com. Anything helps.

Thanks in advance! I’m hoping to leave those kids with some great stuff that will make a difference!
